Tetralume

San Diego - May 2018

Creative Direction, Fabrication, Lighting Design

Tetralume is a twelve-minute light and sound performance built on a tetrahedron structure, with choreographed lighting mapped to an original score. The piece takes you on a journey through an eclectic electronic soundscape, blending visuals and music into an immersive experience.

This was the first large-scale audiovisual installation Kyle Stewart and I created after attending the Day for Night festival in 2017. That event lit a fire in us and we left inspired and determined to craft an experience of our own to share with others.

The piece features original movement by performer Ashlee Cinco and marked my first collaboration with Tim Gmeiner, who I’ve since worked with on many projects. Musicians Tim Gmeiner and Danny Rogers composed a dynamic score with shifting time signatures and tempos, which challenged Kyle and I to level up our light-to-sound choreography. Using a custom sequencer built in TouchDesigner, we honed our skills in pixel mapping and LED control. This project is also where I developed my technique for syncing audio-driven LED animations with 2D vector images.
