City Lights - Winter 2024

A collaboration with Joshua Sjoen for City Lights 2024, this was our first time working together and learning how to build, control and create for volumetric LED displays. Thanks to Pete Thornbury and Jen Deafenbaugh, who put together a workshop at Lighthouse in LA going over how to build and control these displays on a reasonable budget.

These displays are incredibly engaging in person but also very delicate and somewhat unruly with all the wiring and hardware to run them. The requirement to hang them and keep them protected from weather and curious hands provided a challenge. Josh and I worked over a few weekends to get them ready for City Lights and we learned a whole lot in the process.

The full experience runs through 15 minutes of original animations created by Josh. This was a fun project to work on learning the ins and outs of these displays.
