“Create space for others to create”. This is the mission and goal of the team running Quartyard and the passion behind that message is real.
I met Justin Navalle when presenting ‘Service’ at the Hello Neighbor event at Tecture in early 2024. We found common ground right away with our love of music, events and art and the mutual want to support those who create.
Over coffee one morning in September 2024 we were catching up and talking all things music and art as we do. With daylight savings ending, there was more dark hours in the day available to illuminate. I couldn’t tell you how we got from “How you been?” to “what the hell, let’s build an immersive light and sound event!” but that’s basically how it went.
Over the next 12 weeks, we worked with 10 local artists to transform Quartyard into an entirely new experience featuring large scale projections, interactive visuals, LED light structures, projection mapping, laser installations and audio soundscapes. The event included a specialty menu of food and cocktails by El Comal paired with a lounge space. City Lights ran for 6 weeks and featured various music acts including Mark Farina and Plexus Play among many local talented performers. City Lights is an all ages event to be enjoyed by adults and kids of all ages.
